A2 Media | Research: Music Video Conventions

I have worked on a powerpoint that goes over the conventions of music videos, as it's my main task. I talk about different conventions like editing, camera shots and costumes, all of the research I have gathered is put into a single powerpoint.

A2 Media | Magazine Promotion Ancillary

Media advertisement is very important when releasing a new album. A very common method used is to feature said artist and album in a magazine. Last year I worked on a music magazine for my coursework and it went successful so I am confident in this task as I am already very familiar with the conventions of a magazine.

For example;

• Masthead
• House Style
• Spacing
• Image Used
• Titles
• Features
• Fonts
• Other additions (bar codes, price etc) 

In this case, my work will have to be for a magazine advertisement. This will allow me to put more time into a single page, rather than several.

A2 Media | Digipak Ancillary

My initial idea for the brief is to work on a Album Cover, including a promotional music video, a digipak for the album's release and an magazine advertisement for the digipak.

Digipak Examples:

I am going to use Rihanna's "LOUD" cover as a style model for the Digipak I have to create. It uses simple text providing the artist and title with a easy to follow house style. An image that goes over 3 sides, an image for the front cover and the disc.

Here are two music videos which are by indie, lesser known music artists, but the video still has a professional look. Using videos like these would be ideal because I do not have professional experience nor the expensive equipment to make a video as good as the more popular artists.

On the other hand, here is a music video from a more-known artist which is good, but very difficult to replicate given the expensive cars and actors etc. I have included it in this powerpoint because it serves as a good reminder for music video conventions.

A2 Media | Brief Idea

My initial idea for the coursework I am going to complete is to do a Album release. Making a digipak, a music video, and a music magazine advertisement to go along with it. I have chosen this task because last year I studied  it's many conventions so I am confident with this task as I have more experience in it than the other available briefs.

Despite this, I may decide to change my project for many reasons. I may find myself not interested, or not have the right skill or equipment to finish it to my liking. It is best I dive into my brief as soon as possible so I can get a good idea of whether or not it is for me.
