A2 Media | Shot Variety

In the mix of my music video I am going to include other shots in between the choices of plain white shots. For this, I have an idea of taking simple shots of scenery, with my actor performing. This will achieve a nice chill and relaxing vibe for the music video.

For this, I have an idea to go down to New Brighton, where there is a seaside which I can use effectively in my video. This will look good as the overall tone of the song is promoting relaxation, therefore, a shot of the water will be ideal for this.

A2 Media | Location & My Actor

I have decided I am going to take advantage of the simplicity of a white background so that I can achieve a nice shot that will be used more frequently than any of my other shots. To achieve this white background, I can use several sites in school. The most effective may be the projector in my media classroom which I can use to project a simple white page to enhance the background's vibrancy.

A2 Media | Camera & My Actor

The most crucial part of planning is getting the camera to actually do the recording. I'm going to ask to borrow a camera from our school to complete a few shots. The time when I ask it for depends on;
  • When my actor is free
  • When I am free
  • When there are cameras available
  • When the room I intend to use is available

A2 Media | Lyrics & Lip-Syncing

My actor is going to need to learn the words to the song so that he can lip-sync when I'm recording. Fortunately, the song I have chosen is relatively simple and doesn't require a long time studying the words. I am going to provide the words to the song for my actor so that he may practise lip-syncing them.

A2 Media | My Actor

I talked with some of my classmates about who is willing to be an actor for my music video, eventually I found that Cameron was interested in helping so I have chosen him to be my actor. Also, for his investment of time, I intend to do the same and aid him in his media brief.

A2 Media | Picking My Actor

It's time for me to choose an actor to star in my music video. Upon picking my actor I then have to inform them on the song, costume, and organise a time for when we can complete our shots. This is a process which I will blog about to keep track of the progress of the planning stage.

A2 Media | Timeline

I have also started a timeline on iMovie where I can see what shots I intend to use in exact order, this allows me to visualise a proper plan. It will tell me what shots I need to record, and how long for so that I can fit it throughout the video.

A2 Media | Recording

Soon I will be moving onto the recording stage - here I will draft up a little piece of what I have in mind for my final project. Items such as costumes, mise en scene, and location will not be important in this task and it is only a draft. However, much like the lip syncing task - I will gain an idea of what to expect when finally deciding to record the shots. This will serve as very good experience and will allow me to reflect on what went well, and what went wrong.

A2 Media | Storyboard Draft

I have completed my storyboard, though it does not depict the entire length of the song, it does generally cover the pattern of shots chosen. (close up, medium, two, etc). With this, I can accurately decide what shots I am going to need to complete.

A2 Media | Storyboard

I am going to start a storyboard of the order and type of shots. I am doing this so that I can get a good plan of exactly what shots I have to complete and where they will go.

A2 Media | Schedule

The schedule for my recording sessions will be decided when my actor and I have a meeting about when are both available to complete these shots at our best convenience.

A2 Media | Equipment

Aside from the camera - which I will organise with my school when I am able to borrow one for these shots. Not much equipment is needed. I do intend to use the projector in this room as a background for my shots. And of course, all of my shots will be edited on iMovie which is sophisticated video editing software which will be used to put my music video together. I will also have to learn how to use the software effectively.

A2 Media | Location

As mentioned earlier, the location of my shots are near enough fully decided. Though for creative purposes I would like to quickly draft some more shots. The difficulty I have to overcome is trying to find a shot that isn't too different from a blank background. My plan of action is provide a mix between busy shots and a mix of plain shots. Further into the planning stage this will be decided or not.

A2 Media | Mise-en-scene

For mise-en-scene, I am going to carefully pick what costume I want the actor to wear. This is so that I am able to achieve the desired vibe in the music video. Costume is not the only piece of mise-en-scene I want to change, lighting is also essential especially for the idea of music video I have (black and white - relaxing vibe). Though some of these will actually come through editing, a lot of it I will have to physically change when recording shots.

Final Product | Music Video

I have finally finished and uploaded my music video and you can find it here .
